Wednesday 12th January – bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including lunch
with ‘Emily’ – sunny, still and mild.
With wall-to-wall sunshine and light winds forecast for today it was the
ideal opportunity to get out on the bikes for the first time this year. So,
after a morning at home, I made a chicken sandwich with a flask of hot
water for packet tomato soup and we left home at 11.45. We headed down to
Felixstowe prom first which was a bit of a mistake as it was very busy with
people enjoying the sunshine and calm sea, just beautiful. Taking it slow
we turned off at The Fludgers and quickly left the crowds behind as we
headed down Church Lane where the trees were already starting to blossom:)
Then down Marsh Lane crossing open farm land to the delict house and onto
Kings Fleet with loads of swans grazing in the fields. Up onto the Deben
path for a short way just to see the river before heading inland alongside
the Fleet which was mirror calm with fantastic reflections of the trees
with only a couple of fishermen as company, in fact we saw next to no one
during the bike ride, just how we like it:) It was very wet but luckily the
farm tracks were good to ride but we avoided most of our usual paths as
would be pretty muddy! Reaching our favourite lunch spot, the church at
Falkenham hoping to see some snowdrops, we were a week too early really
although there were a few showing. Then we joined ‘Emily’ and enjoyed
lunch we the usual great views with loads of birds flitting about including
some long-tailed tits:) Well rested we continue to Kirton, then Trimley
crossing the A 14 to Grimston Lane spotting the deer in three tree field.
We take the footpath around Felixstowe academy and home enjoying a
three-hour bike ride in perfect winter weather covering 12 miles. Home for
a cuppa and cake followed by a nice sunset – top day:)
